Local Economy and Taxes:
To practice fiscal restraint, I propose:
Capping the percentage of expenditure increases by municipal departments at our annual budget review; being more pro-active in exploring grant opportunities; more extensive participation in the annual UBCM (Union of British Columbia Municipalities) resolutions, and continuing to look constantly at other creative initiatives that increase revenue other than by tax increases.
I support exploring tax incentives to businesses that contribute to benefitting the North Saanich community (green, cultural, infrastructure or social initiatives for example).
I support assisting our local farmers in generating more agricultural revenue from their farms such as from Agritourism.

I am aware that the waterfront property residents are frustrated with their high tax burden and therefore I support exploring ways to rather than lower their taxes, offer waterfront residents more for their taxes such as better beach access maintenance and repairing damaged beaches due to misplaced, overflowing, or faulty outfall sources.
I support encouraging various appropriate home-based businesses including (regulated) Bed and Breakfasts or tourism ventures which fit in to our rural character. |
